This simple blueberry lemonade is perfect to whip up anytime you are wanting a fun drink!Â
It’s simple to make, a fun twist on regular lemonade and uses ingredients that many people always have on hand!
Now, of course, lemonade is best when it’s made with fresh lemons! But in our family, unless it’s planned, I never have that many lemons on hand. So bottled lemon juice is perfect for this. Not to mention cheaper!
Ingredients
- Lemon Juice
- I use ReaLemon brand juice. I love buying off-brand usually but I have found that name brand lemon juice does make a difference!
- Sugar
- Normal Granulated Sugar
- BlueberriesÂ
- I use frozen because I always have them on hand but fresh is great too!
How to Make Simple Blueberry LemonadeÂ
Make a Simple Syrup
Simple syrup is very easy to make! The reason that you need a simple syrup for this recipe rather than just adding sugar is because you want the sugar to dissolve fully. If you simply add sugar to lukewarm water you will be left with sugar on the bottom that does not want to mix it.
Simple Syrup
Boil 1 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar together on the stove. Stir until the sugar fully dissolves then remove from heat to cool the syrup. You just need enough heat to dissolve all the sugar!
This particular time I actually just used my kettle to boil some water. After it had cooled slightly I poured the hot water in a pyrex measuring cup with the sugar. Since the water was warm enough I was able to simply whisk in the sugar fully.
Though you need to be careful with this method! Glass can easily shatter when exposed to extreme temperatures (the reason you should never broil anything with glass). Pyrex is heat-resistant but can still shatter. I waited for the water to slightly cool and then started by adding just a touch of hot water to bring the glass up to temperature a bit.Â
Blend up your Blueberries
Blend ½ cup blueberries (frozen or fresh) in a high-powered blender with ½ cup water. Run the blender for a full minute to make sure that the blueberries are broken down as much as possible.
At this point you could strain your blueberry through a fine mesh strainer if you would like. I choose not to because my Vitamix does such a great job. I am left with some tiny blueberry seeds but I actually kind of like them!Â
If you love things like smoothies, creamy soups or sauces then I highly recommend a high powered blender! I love my Vitamix so much. Like, I made my husband watch the whole infomercial video that came with our blender when we bought it love it, haha!
Combine Everything Up!
Combine all the ingredients in either the serving pitcher or right in the blender. Start by adding slightly less of the simple syrup than you think you will need! You are always able to add more but not less!Â
Serve with lots of ice! I also like to add some blueberries on top or a strawberry on the side.Â
Enjoy!
Taking a simple lemonade and adding even something as simple as blueberries can make it seem so special! My kiddos get so excited for things as easy as this to make and I love getting to love on them this way.
This drink is also great for holidays like the 4th of July! With the blue color it’s easy to make it a festive drink by adding some strawberries and a festive straw!
This drink goes great with easy naan pizza for a dinner outside or with an apple dip snack!
Hope you love this simple drink and can use it to make those around you feel loved!
