Want to bless a mom with a new baby? Read on for the best gifts for new moms that are not for the baby!
Welcoming a baby into the world is an incredible thing. Truly amazing.
It’s also crazy. Whoa.
After 9/10 months of pregnancy you go into labor and have a beautiful baby! But then comes some of the things that we can forget about in the glow of a new little one. The crashing hormones, the toe-curling fun that can be the beginning stages of nursing (if you nurse) and the amazing lack of sleep.
If you are a new mom bringing a new baby home from the hospital almost feels illegal. Like, we are all alone to care for this baby?! With no experience or real medical knowledge?
For those with little ones already at home bringing a new baby has its own set of challenges! What are the siblings going to do/feel? How do I care for a newborn while also running around with toddlers?
All that to say, moms are amazing and have a lot on their plate when they get home! We should celebrate the moms coming home with a new little one! We want to help, give, bless and love those in our lives with newborns.
Now, I am all for some gifts for that new little nugget!
But let’s not forget that new mom who went through a whole lot. Plus, if she is postpartum then she is for sure still going through a whole lot!
These are the Best Gifts for New Moms!
Meals
This one is a top after baby gift to give for a reason. Not having to cook and plan for meals after a new baby is amazing!
If you want to really make a meal the perfect gift add a few extra things like.
- Plastic Plates/Silverware. No cleaning up!
- Enough Food for a leftover lunch the next day.
- Dessert! A favorite little treat for a tired mama who is not going to bake anything soon.
- Things for Breakfast the next morning. Something simple like a can of refrigerator cinnamon rolls is so thoughtful.
- Snacks can be so handy for a busy mom who may not be putting herself first when it comes to eating well.
Depending on your relationship with the new mom, offer to start a meal train online if she doesn’t have one yet! Share it on social media and it can be really surprising to see how many people do want to bless others. Sharing it with a church family as well can fill up a meal train quickly!
Photo Session
Gifting a mom with a family or newborn photo session is an amazing gift! Quality photographs of our families is something that we will always cherish and love.
You can reach out to local photohers and ask for a gift certificate/session for them to book when it works out best for them!
Mama Clothing/Water Bottle/Mug
Now, I know not all Moms want the “mama” type clothing/coffee mugs/ ect. But even some of those moms secretly would love it if it was bought for them!
Know your people and if they would like this gift! For those that do, it’s a gift that they LOVE!
Taking Cara Babies Class
Cara is a nurse and sleep expert! Her sleep classes are amazing at helping parents to understand baby/toddler sleep and how to get to a place where you are sleeping too.
Gift the newborn class to a new mom before the baby is born to really help her feel prepared before the baby comes! Or give it to a mom struggling with sleep at any stage. She has classes for toddler sleep as well.
I bought and went through the newborn sleep class before my second was born. Even though I had a baby before it was still so helpful! My first was such a poor sleeper I wanted to do anything I could to make it go better. It did!
Massage
Every new mom is in need of some well deserved pampering. A massage equals not only some alone time but also relaxing time. A massage is kind to a body that just went through a whole lot!
Facial
Similar to a massage but for those moms who are all about some skincare! Plus, if you have never had a good facial it is easily just as relaxing as a massage.
A small “Pamper” Type Item
Moms rarely do a good job pampering themselves.
A face mask, fun new lip balm, nice lotion or a favorite nail polish that you think they would like is a great little reason to set aside some time for themselves!
These small little gifts are inexpensive and a great way to show you care about mom too!
Cleaning Service
Gifting a mom with a cleaning service at any time is a great gift. If someone was to come into my home right now and do a deep clean I would be a little too giddy with excitement, haha!
You can work with local cleaning services/people to give certain amounts/times/types of cleaning that the mom could book herself.
Car detailing is also a great gift that falls under cleaning! Some people love love love their cars being fresh and clean. With those moms with toddlers in particular it seems like a losing battle.
Babysitting
Now, this one is depending on your relationship with the mom and how the mom feels about it.
A new mom might not be interested in leaving her newborn with anyone for a long time and that’s ok! Don’t keep offering something that she is turning down.
Offering to watch older children is a great babysitting gift too because it allows mom to get some rest/snuggles with the newest baby.Â
Do a fun activity with older siblings like easy chalk painting!
AirPods/wireless headphones
Those long nursing/feeding sessions can easily get kinda boring and it’s great to be able to listen to music/podcasts while not holding a phone. Plus, eventually the baby gets old enough to think that headphone cords of any sort are very interesting to pull off!
I was given air pods while pregnant with my second and have used them almost daily while nursing him for the last 15 months!
Your favorite Book/Music
The newborn stage can be very quiet and kinda boring. Filling it with good books, music, podcasts and shows helps pass the time!
I LOVE the recommendations from people that I love. From the start I am much more excited to read a book a sister gave to me over something random.
Your Time
Navigating a new baby can be challenging and at times also a really lonely time.
Ask the new mom what she wants! Some really do want to be alone. But others really want to be around people.
But as a new mom you also want to be at home! So ask if they want you to come and just hang out!
You can also ask when they want you around. The baby blues and postpartum depression is very real for many moms.
For me I had the baby blues each time for about two weeks after birth. I was ok during the day but as soon as the sun set the baby blues would hit. Having people around in the evening was immensely helpful for me!
Love on Baby AND Mom!
Mom’s love opening up gifts of little onesies and gifts for their newborn. We feel so loved when others love our children well!
But it is a surprising treat when people want to love on the mom too!
Lets love on new moms well as an individual person, as well as loving on that new baby!
